bosemish1 Boston Emissions: Music Submissions

For more than 20 years, Boston Emissions aired Sunday nights on 104.1fm WBCN. Anngelle became host in 2008. In 2009, the show relocated to 100.7fm WZLX (CBS Radio owns both WBCN and WZLX). The mission of Boston Emissions is to expose and support independent bands and artists of varying rock styles from Boston and New England.

Boston Emissions with Anngelle Wood can be heard live at 10pm on 100.7 WZLX and reairs Mondays at 7pm and Thursdays at 8pm on WBCN.com (mostly). Also check out the Soundcloud link. I update this info from time to time. Most recent update was 6/9/2013.

Boston Emissions on FB | Boston Emissions on Twitter | Boston Emissions on Soundcloud

I really do try to listen to everything that comes in. Please keep in touch, let me know about upcoming shows.

The Golden Unicorn winning submission requests:

What I play:

Pretty much everything. That is good. From Boston and New England. I play heavy stuff, I play dancey stuff, I play artsy stuff. I play lots of stuff. Send it.

I play active bands – that is bands that are regularly playing out around the city. I play classic Boston bands. I play music from previous members of classic Boston bands. I will spotlight new and up-and-coming bands if it sounds good and I like it.

I only feature bands (and with members with very close ties to) from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont or Connecticut. If you are but your web presence does not say that, you need to fill me in.

How to get played:

The audio quality is important as is the musicianship. I will give new bands a chance but consider how it sounds up against what you hear on the show regularly. I am not a fan of live recordings. It’s a tough listen.

Send me your music — Bandcamp, Soundcloud links work best — to BostonEmissions at Gmail —  this is the address I work out of for the show.

Are you on twitter? Follow @BostonEmissions.

Please have up-to-date band information on your sites – Facebook, Bandcamp, Twitter, blog and so so as I want to learn about you and follow up. If you send me to MySpace, you will lose me entirely.

No attachments to my WZLX email please.

Please don’t use Facebook messaging. I lose that stuff too.

Include a few lines about your band, where you are from and all of your links. I will use this info to get in touch with you, let you know you’re getting played.

Watch my playlists to know when you are played. Perhaps set google alerts to receive notification when your band is mentioned on the internet.

Send show emails with all the info in time for that Sunday’s show. I base a lot of my playlists on that week’s upcoming shows.

Please identify clean songs. Kick ass songs laced with sh!t and f$ck equal no dice. I hear a lot of awesome songs I cannot play. Edit your songs for radio. I don’t have time to do it. Your cred will remain intact.

While I am moving toward all-digital submissions, you may mail a copy of your completed CD with band one-sheet info – to include band info, where you are from, contact info and important links to:

Anngelle Wood
Boston Emissions //  CBS Radio Boston
83 Leo Birmingham Parkway
Boston, MA 02135

Want more?

Learn a little about my show and me. Send an email, say hello.

I really do not care who has played you, who has booked you, what shows you did, what contest you won, who you know, who you work with, or who you are related to. I choose what is played based on the music. Namedropping is dumb. You might go on and on about someone I think is a dillhole.

THE RUMBLE:

Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble bands are announced each March. The selection is made long before that. Keep this in mind if your band is interested. The work started yesterday.

Boston Emission is home of the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble. Anngelle Wood chooses the 24 bands who take part. Decision is based on a few things.

Most basic criteria includes: Be from Boston or New England. Be playing out regularly around the city and beyond. Put out new music. Get it to me. Get on it for 2014! I am already looking for the next crop of bands.

Queens Of The Stone Age Premiere New Song ‘My God Is The Sun’

Queens of the Stone Age refer to their first album in six years not as their return but as the start of something new: QOTSA 2.0. Their new album, …Like Clockwork, hits stores June 4 on the indie label Matador Records and features an assortment of collaborators including Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Elton John, original bassist Nick Olivieri and Scissors Sisters frontman Jake Shears.

Leading up to the new album, the band has teased fans with rotating song snippets posted to their website. Different clips could be heard by refreshing the page. They then went one step further by releasing a mockumentary on the making of the album, titled Secrets of the Sound.

Today, the band debuted the album’s first hard-hitting single, titled “My God Is The Sun” (stream below). Speaking to BBC 1 radio host Zane Lowe, frontman Josh Homme said today’s release felt “like a weight made of monkeys has been lifted off of my shoulders.”

While we have taken a break from our traditional format, we were very happy to be invited to be part of TT the Bear’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Week!

The Central Square music establishment has been the site of many a breaking band!  We broadcast the show live on Sunday, September 8 as a way to celebrate the last four decades of rock ‘n’ roll in Boston — and Cambridge, naturally. Whatever the case, both sides of the river have cause for celebration.

Special thanks to Mellow Bravo (surprise!), Permafrost (that’s a reunion!), Sarah Rabdau and Self-Employed Assassins, Eldridge Rodriguez and Await Rescue.
TT’s celebration week runs every night this week! Full schedule is posted at http://www.ttthebears.com.

Carter Alan has a new book out! It’s entitled Radio Free Boston: The Rise and Fall of WBCN, and it details exactly what the title suggests: the entire history of Boston’s legendary “Rock of Boston” station, which was launched in 1968 and shut down in 2009.

There are a few events happening in the Boston area to grab your copy and help celebrate the release of the book. These include signings with Carter himself, release parties and other good times to commemorate a revolutionary radio station, its incredible story and Carter’s good hard work in telling it.

Boston Emissions with Anngelle Wood is FIVE!

Friday, October 4 at TT the Bear’s Place with The Field Effect, The Color and Sound, Nate Leavitt, Airport, Doom Lover

Boston Emissions began airing on 104.1fm WBCN in 1987. From its very start, the show has been instrumental in introducing and establishing hundreds of Boston and New England bands. Anngelle Wood became host of the show, as well as planner and organizer of the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble, in 2008. There is nothing we love more than throwing a rock ‘n’ roll party! Please join us in celebrating the continued live and local programming that remains a vital part of the city’s – and the region’s – music community.
